A model is a concept showing the change in state from before and after a change is made. It is an attempt to visualize and predict the change. Since in the real world each system is unique, a good deal of effort has been taken to provide generic change models that can be used as the foundation for presenting proposed change or change analysis in real situations. It was not always easy to draw an abstract change concept however most of the diagrams are quite good at depicting the concept and certainly can be used as a foundation and starting point for modeling a rea-world tangible scenario.

In many ways these models are the core action of the framework. Using the models and the rest of the framework together provides real-world actions to improve teams of people as well as conceptual context to justify the proposals.

The models are present in no order of precedence.

Description

Divide a role or team system further into independent parts based upon an appropriate characteristic such as location, skillset, product, or any meaningful descriptor.

Examples

Place loan processing teams at every bank branch location instead of only having one larger team at a central bank location.

At the end of spring training promote some baseball players from the minors to the majors.

Diagram

Description

Separate an internal role from a system, or single out the only necessary roles of a team system, discarding the remaining elements and moving the separated roles to other team systems.

Examples

Close a failing restaurant chain location and move the head chef to another location but not the staff.

Close the corporate mail room and move some of the staff to other teams but not all.

Diagram

Description

Combine a set of roles or team systems based upon an appropriate characteristic into fewer independent parts, expanding the functionality of fewer elements.

Examples

Move all server admins to a single group and administer all servers from one team.

Move all loan officers to a central bank location and schedule time with customers across all branches via videoconference.

Diagram

Description

Create a team system with roles that can change as needed, sometimes being in configuration X and sometimes in configuration N. Allow the function and number of roles to expand and contract as needed.

Examples

A trucking company hires temporary drivers to haul apples during harvesting season.

A bar hires bartenders that can also act as bouncers when needed based upon the situation.
